Exporting Data in CityWater

CityWater allows managing your water distribution network models. As an online application, it allows individuals across the organization to visualize, reference, and analyze existing models in a familiar map-based browser environment while maintaining the data integrity of the model.

When viewing the project details, the Export tab allows three different files to be exported for your use in other applications: a Report Map Shapefile, a Network Map Shapefile, and an EPANET Input File.

Export tab in CityWater

The Report Map Shapefile allows you to select the Variable and Time options to include in the file. For Variable, you can select from head, pressure, quality (links), quality (nodes), demand, pressure swing, velocity, or headloss. The time options include average, minimum, or maximum. Based on the selections, a shapefile with those options will be exported when you click the Export Report Map button.

The Export Network Map button under the Network Map Shapefile option will export a shapefile of the network map, including all the links/pipes, nodes/junctions, and other features. This can then be imported into WMS or any other application that works with distribution networks.

The final option, EPANET Input File, creates an EPANET input file that can be used in any application that can import it. This plain text file contains all the pipe networks information, including pipes, nodes (junctions), pumps, valves, storage tanks, and reservoirs. It also contains additional project and preference information used by the EPANET desktop application.

An additional option allows you to save the current view when in the Map view:

  1. Adjust the map view to how you want it
  2. Right-click anywhere on the map and select Save image as…

This will automatically save the current map view as “download.png” in your downloads location on your computer.

At the conference, we announced some of the new features and upcoming changes to our products that we are excited about:

  • Making XMS functionality available for use outside of the traditional interface.
  • More web-based applications for portability and ease of access.
  • Simplifying and unifying tools so it is easier to find and use the functionalities available.
  • Project management tools to track the history of a model.
  • 3D bridge modeling in SMS.

Talking to those in attendance, we learned they enjoyed:

  • Learning more about software features and functionality.
  • Learning how to improve their model development process.
  • Discovering benefits of Aquaveo’s software over other software.
  • Talking to developers and learning tips for model development.
  • Being able to show off their models and receive feedback on them.

New CityWater Pricing

Are you looking at using CityWater? CityWater is a great way to manage water distribution using cloud-based technology.

Recently, Aquaveo changed its pricing system for purchasing a CityWater license. The old system of standard and professional licensing has been modified. When purchasing CityWater, you can now configure CityWater to meet your needs.

Begin by going to the CityWater Pricing page. This page will show you all of the options that can be included in your license. The top of the page shows the core components included in all CityWater licenses. After the core components, a list of components included with each add-on package is shown. Make a note of the add-ons packages needed for your projects and the number of pipes in your largest project before clicking the Configure button.

On the CityWater License Configuration page, you will select the specific features for your license.

GSSHA

Start with entering the number of pipes in your largest EPANET model that will be used in CityWater. This does not limit the number of models that can be uploaded into CityWater, only the size of model. For example, if your largest EPANET model contains 1500 pipes, you could upload any number of models that contain 1500 pipes or fewer.

If later you find that you need to upload a larger model, contact Aquaveo to receive a quote for adding a larger model.

After entering the number of pipes for your largest model, you can select the packages to add to the license. The components of each package are described in the previous page. If later you discover you need a package that wasn’t originally purchased, contact Aquaveo to receive a quote.

Finally, if you are interested in purchasing an Enterprise License of CityWater, you will need to contact Aquaveo for a customer quote. The price for an Enterprise License depends on the number of additional licenses you will be acquiring and the components of each of those licenses.

When configuring your license, the Subscription Summary will automatically update with a quote based on the number of pipes in your largest model and the selected packages. Clicking Add to Cart will take you to the final page where you can review and pay for your order.

If you have any questions about purchasing CityWater or how CityWater can help you, don’t hesitate to contact us at sales@aquaveo.com.

What We Learned at the 2018 Aquaveo User Conference

Aquaveo held its first annual User Conference from October 16-17, 2018! It was amazing to get to meet so many of our users at once. We hope everyone had a great time.

For us, it was exciting to meet users from all over the world. We met users from the United States, Canada, Portugal, Germany, the United Arab Emirates, Guyana, and Thailand. When asked why they came, the attendees said they came to learn:

  • How Aquaveo’s products can help with their projects
  • More of what Aquaveo has to offer
  • What Aquaveo is all about

In listening to what our users had to share with us, we took away a couple key items that you want to see improved in our software.

  1. You want modeling to go faster. We understand the demand to give results in less time is growing, so we will be looking at ways to make the process of modeling take less time and still be accurate. Some of the innovations added into Aquaveo’s software already significantly reduce the time it takes to complete a model. We hope to add more automation and tools to speed up modeling times.
  2. You need to be able to work with big data. More data is becoming available and you want to be able to use it. This means processing large files covering larger areas in more detail. At Aquaveo, we are working on doing this, including optimizing our code and adding new tools to work with large files such as lidar files.

We’d like to thank the following for participating in our user conference:

If you couldn’t make it to the Aquaveo User Conference this year, we will be having another one next year. Watch our website and Facebook page for future details. See you next year!
