Optimizing the Graphics Window in SMS 13.4
Looking for an easier way to customize the display of your Surface-water Modeling System (SMS) model? Luckily, the 13.4 beta release of SMS includes a new feature that allows you to manually adjust the size of the Main Graphics Window, which helps you to better view and interact with your model.
This new feature ensures that you can adapt the display of your model for different screen sizes and resolutions, improving both your workflow and the presentation of your data. So, whether you're working on complex simulations or visualizing detailed analyses, this update makes it easier than ever to personalize your SMS workspace.
In the latest beta release of SMS, the Graphics Window Size dialog was created to allow you the flexibility of fine-tuning the width and height of your display window. This can be especially useful when trying to match the dimensions of a high-resolution display screen, optimize layouts for multi-monitor setups, or create consistent, publication-ready images for reports and presentations. By giving you more control over your workspace, this update enhances usability and ensures that your visualizations always look their best.
How to Adjust the Graphics Window Size
To adjust the Graphics Window size:
-
Go to Display | Set Graphics Window Size… to access the Graphics Window Size dialog.
Once the dialog is open, you’ll find several key pieces of information and input areas:
-
Current size: This displays the present dimensions of your Graphics Window, allowing you to see the exact width and height you’re currently viewing your model in.
-
Last saved size: This shows the dimensions that were last saved. The next time you open the model, the Graphics Window will automatically reopen with the same proportions.
-
New size: Here, you can specify the new width and height for your graphics window to better fit your modeling needs, whether you need a larger space for detailed editing or a smaller window to streamline your work.
-
Aspect ratio: The dialog calculates and displays the aspect ratio of your proportions, helping you maintain the correct visual relationships in your model. This is especially important for preventing distortion.
After inputting your dimensions, SMS will adjust the size of the Graphics Window according to the proportions you’ve set.
Saving Your Graphics Window Dimensions
When saving the dimensions of the Graphics Window to the file, this new feature ensures that the next time you open the model, the window will automatically reopen in the same size and proportions. This allows for a consistent viewing experience—something that is especially important for collaborative projects or data presentations. With the power to save the dimensions of the Graphics Window, you don’t have to worry about manually adjusting the size each time you load your model.
