Announcing SMS 13.4 Beta!
We are pleased to announce the release of the Surface-water Modeling System (SMS) version 13.4 in beta. Over the past years, we have been diligently working on improvements to SMS that will significantly enhance your surface-water modeling projects. In this release, we have incorporated several new features and tools to streamline your workflow and improve your modeling experience. Here are some of the exciting new features you’ll find in SMS 13.4.
Updates to Viewing Tools
Switching views during the modeling process is crucial for better visualization and understanding of your project. With this in mind, we have made some significant changes to enhance this functionality. The Front, Side, and Oblique views now have dedicated macros added directly to the main toolbar, enabling quicker and more seamless transitions between these perspectives. This update simplifies navigation and ensures you can focus more on modeling without interruption.
Moreover, we have introduced a new feature that allows users to copy the Graphics Window directly to the clipboard. This enhancement not only makes it easier to share your work but also lets you increase the size and resolution of the copied image. Whether you’re preparing for a presentation or adding visuals to a report, this feature will help you capture high-quality images effortlessly.
More Tools in the Toolbox
The Toolbox has seen a substantial expansion in SMS 13.4, with many new tools added to aid in altering and refining 2D meshes. These improvements are designed to provide more control and flexibility when working with complex surface-water models. In addition to the tools for 2D meshes, equivalent new tools have been developed for unstructured grids, ensuring comprehensive support across different modeling scenarios.
We’ve also introduced new tools specifically for various models, including CMS-Flow, SCHISM, and GSSHA. These additions aim to enhance model-specific workflows, making it easier to configure and run simulations tailored to each model’s unique requirements.
SCHISM Interface Updates
The SCHISM (Semi-implicit Cross-scale Hydroscience Integrated System Model) numerical model has received a substantial update with expanded interface options. Besides the new SCHISM tools in the toolbox, the interface now allows for the creation of a complete SCHISM simulation. This includes attaching a mesh, setting model parameters, and mapping boundary conditions directly to the simulation. These enhancements provide a more integrated and user-friendly approach to setting up SCHISM simulations, saving time and reducing potential setup errors.
SRH-2D Improvements
Significant improvements have been made in how SMS interacts with the SRH-2D model. These enhancements include additional features for monitor and simulation plots, giving users more options to analyze and visualize simulation data effectively. We’ve also added new label options for boundary conditions, making it easier to identify and manage different simulation components. Further refinements have been made to the simulation termination criteria and the interaction between SRH-2D and HY-8, ensuring smoother and more accurate modeling outcomes.
These are just some of the many new features in SMS 13.4. We invite you to get ahead by exploring the SMS 13.4 beta and taking advantage of these powerful new tools and improvements.
