Job Summary
Use cutting edge technological tools and software to perform spatially distributed hydrologic and hydraulic modeling tasks to solve various water resources related problems. Implement distributed hydrologic modeling over a wide range of spatial scales. Set up, calibrate and run spatially distributed sediment and constituent transport models at both national and international watersheds. Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic (River models) analyses. Assigned studies may include levee failure analyses, land use change modeling, flood mapping, climate change impact analysis. Develop and enhance flood hazard models and the relevant source code to automate the analysis processes. Perform quality reviews of H&H studies, including peer review of projects and project reports. Analyze and interpret stream-flow and precipitation time series data. Prepare written reports such as study narratives documenting the modeling works and case reviews, write technical reports, and make presentations. Assist civil project and training coordinator in scoping projects. Support other water resources, disaster, emergency management, and mitigation planning projects. Develop distributed hydrologic modeling training materials. Conduct or coordinate training. Participate in the development the Watershed Modeling System (WMS) software and other software products. Implement scientific computational methods in WMS. Develop and/or enhance the WMS graphical user interface. Design and run automated tests of WMS and other software products. Require M.S. degree in Water Resources Engineering. Background to include expertise in 2D hydrologic modeling using GSSHA and WMS. Utilization of GIS for data capture, analysis, and presentation of hydrologic investigations, modeling, and impact assessments. Ability to analyze, interpret and process NEXRAD radar rainfall data. Solid knowledge of the XMS set of software tools (i.e. WMS, SMS, GMS). Knowledge of stochastic and catchment hydrology and flood modeling. Utilizing the WMS, GSSHA, SMS, GMS, AHGW and ArcGIS software. Solid technical programming skills (e.g. C/C++, FORTRAN). Background in river hydraulic modeling using HEC-RAS and/or TUFLOW and GIS applications. Ability to gather, understand, and critically analyze relevant hydrological and geophysical data from all available sources. Communication and presentation skills.
