This web-based training is designed to review important concepts and principles of hydrology that form the foundation of hydrologic modeling. The Watershed Modeling System is a program that uses digital-spatial information like elevation grids, land use and soil layers, precipitation, and others to develop input parameters for many widely used hydrologic modeling programs. The training you receive on WMS will help you learn where to locate and process such information for development of models. However, it is expected that you have a good background of the requisite hydrology principles in order to better appreciate and use the WMS during the training and in future application. This on-line training is intended to reinforce what you may already know and prepare you to get more from the WMS-specific training. Your instructor will take a few minutes at the beginning of the course to review this information so come with your questions and be prepared on the course assessment to answer questions coming from these materials and discussions.
Depending on your current familiarity with hydrologic modeling these materials should take 1-2 hours to complete.
